No, we aren’t. The Hunter Community Fund doesn’t have employees or a board. We’re a giving circle. We exist solely as a funnel to fund the work of great charities. Technically, we are a Named Fund at Australian Communities Foundation, a non-profit organisation that supports and enables charitable giving.

No, the Hunter Community Fund is entirely volunteer run.

We want to support the important work happening in our neighbourhood. At the same time, we know (from the recommendations of GiveWell) that the most reliably high-impact and cost-effective charities often operate internationally.

GiveWell is a non-profit dedicated to researching the most cost‑effective ways to save and improve lives. After evaluating the impact a charity claims to have, GiveWell recommends a list of top charities. The Hunter Community Fund supports recommendations from charity evaluators like GiveWell so that our members have confidence that their donation is being used effectively to have a genuine impact.

Hunter Community Fund does not seek applications from charities. Our members decide by popular vote which charities to support. If you’d like to support a particular non-profit, you should become a member and nominate your favourite Hunter charity.
